In an interview with Le Monde Économie, Snow+Snow’s Sophie Marchand, managing partner of the firm’s Paris office, urged French energy policymakers to adopt a more consistent long-term framework for the energy transition, warning that political instability is causing investors to look elsewhere in Europe.
Marchand, who serves on the boards of several renewable energy associations, said that “energy infrastructure demands decade-long certainty. When policy shifts with every change of government, project developers and financiers simply move to more predictable markets.” She urged France to treat energy investment as a matter of national competitiveness.
On the green hydrogen opportunity specifically, Marchand said France risks “missing the window entirely” if it does not commit to a clear regulatory pathway soon. “Germany and the Netherlands are moving. Spain is moving. France is debating. That gap will be very difficult to close in five years.”
